Will Netflix customers enjoy going digital?
Currently Netflix customers have the added bonus of watching movies instantly as well as receiving current DVD movies in the mail.
Later this year Netflix Inc. plans to deliver movies and other programming straight to customer’s television sets.
LG Electronics will be producing the technological boxes that will pipe the entertainment from Netflix Inc. offices over high-speed Internet connection to your home.
There has been no comment on additional costs to current customers.
“It’s going to be very slick and easy,” Reed Hastings, Netflix’s chief executive officer commented to Associated Press. “We want the TV experience to be very relaxing and not like visiting a Web site.”
Am I the only one that thinks Netflix’s 40 million dollar investment is not going to be worth it? Unless Netflix updates the movies that can be viewed instantly by adding current DVD titles, this investment might be for not.
As a customer of Netflix, I find myself not watching the movies that I can view instantly due to the poor and outdated. For example, even though they have Season 2 of Heroes, they have yet to update the current season of The Office.
I also have 30 hours of instant viewing time. Will this time increase when Netflix’s plans come into view? Or will customers still be stuck with a limited amount of instant viewing time?
It looks like I’m not the only one that has a dissenting view? Investors are a little skeptical too. Stock prices have dropped from $34 a share to Wednesday’s final report of $26.35 in nearly four years.
Let’s not forget about that big shiny Apple looming in the shadows. 1.8 million Apple TV devices were brought into customer’s homes in 2007. Apple expects to sell another 2.9 million this year.
Sounds like stiff competition to me.
What do you think? Are you a Netflix customer excited about the advancements? Do you think Netflix is going to stumble on their future addition?
