Speak Out Domestic Violence Awareness
Perhaps people do it because they don’t want to get involved in other people’s affairs. Perhaps people think that the violence will turn their direction. There is a reason Domestic Violence is a silent epidemic. People are afraid to speak out for themselves and for others.
People rush to the scene of an accident and call 911. Why can’t the same be done for a Domestic Violence victim? There are things that you can do to help.
Contact The Police
Your local Police Department will have information on Domestic Violence laws and procedures. The Police will also have information on how the victim can obtain a restraining order.
If you witness Domestic Violence, please call 911. You have the right to be anonymous but no one deserves to be beaten and battered.
Talk To The Victim
I know that it is not easy to become involved but educating a victim could mean life or death. Let them know that there is a way out and provide a telephone number of a local Domestic Violence Shelter. Provide a small area for them to keep a suitcase with clothes for when they do decide that they want to get out of the situation.
Provide Information
If a person doesn’t want you involved, the least you can do is provide information.
There are several organizations in your city, county, or state that will help the victim and their family.
