Eco-friendly Christmas tree solutions
Now that Christmas is over. There is the all-elusive question of what to do with the dying or dead Christmas tree. Sure trees meant for the holiday season are great for the eco-system while they are growing but once that tree is cut so are the eco-friendly benefits.
You definitely don’t want to put your tree in the garbage. It will only end up in a landfill to rot away. Cutting it up and burning it in the fireplace would only add more chemicals into the air.
The best thing to do is recycle. Earth 911 has listings of places where you can recycle your tree each year. San Jose, California had a Yardwaste Program that recycles Christmas trees, brush, grass, leaves, tree trimmings, and weeds.
The City of San Jose Yardwaste Program can be reached at (408) 277-2700 for specific times and dates. More information can also be found on their website.
Now the question is what to do for next year? Do you do what the writer of “Keeping It Green suggests and buy another cut down tree? Or do you purchase a fake tree that emits chemicals from its production? Sounds like a double edge blade for your decision.
My suggestion? Plant a tree in your yard or decorate something in front of your apartment complex. This way you’ll not be adding to the pollution by transporting a cut down tree or fake tree to your local market.
Planting a tree in your yard on the other hand will process 25% of what your automobile produces each year by The CarbonNeutral Company standards. Have three of your friends do the same and your able to take one vehicle off the road.
That just makes good scents.
