Christmas Celebrations, Rocking Concerts, And More

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

joanjett.jpgI don’t care what some people say in San Francisco, California. San Jose, California is a city. Yes, you guessed it. I’m tired of people saying, “I don’t know where anything is around here, I’m from the city.” What the?

To prove that we are a city, here are some things going on at our convention center, theaters, HP Pavilion, art museum, and more.

Voices In Harmony
The California Theater will be host to Northern California’s Premiere Men’s A Cappella Chorus on Sunday December 16 2007. You can listen to a collection of their musical pursuits here.

Monday Review: The Fountain

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

fountain.jpgYesterday, today, tomorrow. Past, present, future. Through time and space, one man embarks on a bold 1000-year odyssey to defeat humankind’s most indomitable foe: Death.

Death, Oh is that what the movie is about? Isn’t the movie much more than that though? Could someone not say that the movie is about life and how we try to hold onto it with such boldness that we would do anything to keep going?

I have to admit that the movie and concept is a hard act to follow. Each level of the movie mirrored each other and at times seemed to intertwine with each other.

hughjackman.jpgHugh Jackman plays the man, devoted to one woman, determined to protect her from forces that threaten her existence. A conquistador facing the flaming sword himself to drink from the tree of life and save the woman that he loves. A scientist researching the essence of trees to find a treatment for his soul mate and a space traveler battling to keep a tree alive that is continuing his life.

In each role, Hugh Jackman is intense. As the role of the conquistador he made me believe that he would do anything for his love. As the scientist, I could feel the pain and frustration of being so close to a solution and watching your love slowly slip away.
