San Jose Favorites: Chinese Food

Monday, September 24th, 2007

chinese.jpgIt seems that San Jose goes for originality over classic Chinese food. The top three are Chef Chu’s in Los Altos, Chef Mings in Palo Alto, and my personal favorite Wings in San Jose.

Chef Chu’s
Chef Chu has been serving great Chinese food to the Bay Area for many years. Chef Chu’s hand on approach has made the restaurant what it is today. Chef Chu’s is a place where friends and family can experience quick, healthy, simple and delicious food.

I agree with Rachel Ray! If you want to experience a restaurant and not the price, then try the place at lunchtime. Chef Chu has created a wonderful menu for either lunch or dinner.

My favorite is the Sichuan Beef. The beef is so tender that it almost melts in your mouth. The Sichuan Beef does pack a punch in spice. So unless spiciness is your thing, I would choose something else. Mike loves the Lemon Chicken. I swear the man will eat anything fried.

Free Coffee

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

coffee_1.jpgThe smell of fresh brewed coffee in the morning! Most of us love it. How many of you love coffee and need it to deal with the kids and pets? It looks like Folgers is here to help with five new flavors. The best thing is that you can get a sample for free!

Folgers offers nine different flavors to make every morning special. Bistro Roast for those of us who love bistro style coffee.

Crème Brulee, the lovely mixture of vanilla and caramel. Lively Columbian is for those who like to grind their own coffee in the morning. Lively Columbian is also available already ground.

Folgers also offers Morning Café, which is a light roasted coffee. Caramel Drizzle is for those who want a rich finish. Hazelnut Cream offers the nutty flavor of Hazelnut to the coffee bean. Chocolate Truffle is for all the chocolate lovers out there. Vanilla Biscotti offers the simple taste of vanilla. Espresso Roast is for all the coffee drinkers who want rich and bold coffee.

My favorite is the Crème Brulee and Bistro Roast. Mike likes the Chocolate Truffle and Espresso Roast. My love comments that “The Espresso Roast will not replace a true Espresso but it makes a great cup of coffee”.

Don’t forget to try your own sample of Folgers Gourmet. Folgers offers a selection of four new roasts. You might find a favorite of your own.

Folgers Gourmet Selections. Get A Free Sample

Don’t forget to check back next friday when I let everyone know about more free stuff and contests that are going on around San Jose and the web.

Fast Pizza Delivery In San Jose

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

happypizza.jpgPizza delivery sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you never call again. FPD is the first pizza place that I found was spot on when it came to prices, customer service, and freshness.

Customer Service
Customer service starts the minute a company picks up the phone to take your order. Mike was impressed with Fast Pizza Delivery because he didn’t have to repeat the address over and over again.

As someone who is in sales, I was impressed that the company knew how to sell their product without being forceful. After taking our order the Fast Pizza Delivery Representative went on to suggest side orders and drinks.

San Jose Food:Basil & Garlic Sausage

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

logo.gifDo you want the taste of a New York style sausage but don’t live in New York? Have you tried the New York Style Sausage Company?

Mike and I prepared their Basil & Garlic Sausage for lunch. I have to say that the flavor and spices are wonderful. I’m suprised because most sausages are either bland or overpowering. The pork is actually light in texture. The basil and garlic in the sausage is flavorful.

Most people serve sausage with red sauce. We decided to go with a light pasta dish to accompany the Basil and Garlic Sausage. I thought we would share it with you.

Mike’s Pizza….Are they your favorite?

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

burger.jpgMike and I received a flyer in the mail for Mike’s Pizza. We were impressed at first for the fact that Mike’s Pizza was the first place that offered burgers, salads, and other items. Well other than pizza that is.

With not wanting to cook for the night, we decided to give a few menu items a try. Mike’s Pizza has a wide selection of menu items from Cheeseburgers to tortas. The website claims that there is a minimum order of ten dollars but the actual minimum order is twenty.

Customer Service
Maybe the person that answered the phone was hard of hearing but I don’t like to have to repeat and spell my street several times to make an order. Mike’s Pizza delivery is smart though! The delivery guy called us to confirm the address and look it up on the internet.

Burgers
For $5.00, the Cheeseburger wasn’t bad. Instead of being served on a hamburger bun, the burger was served on a grilled roll. There was also Thousand Island dressing, lettuce, and tomato.

Hot Wings
Anything that can give Mike heartburn has to be hot. They were tasty but I think they could have been grilled a little more. I personally like my hot wings to have grill marks on them.

Chicken Strips

Tasty little strips of chicken served with Ranch dressing. I just don’t like paying a dollar for each chicken strip. So, I would have to say not worth the $3.99

Mozzarella Sticks

Don’t ever order Mozzarella sticks from a delivery place. I don’t know if Mike’s Pizza cooked them long enough or the just congealed during the delivery time. I expected string gooeyness and got sticks of tepid cheese.

Will A.G. Ferrari Return To San Jose?

Friday, August 10th, 2007

AG Ferrari Products

My Fiancé let it leak that A.G. Ferrari Foods might be opening a store in San Jose, California. I don’t mind the drive to Sunnyvale at all but I think that A.G. Ferrari Foods is missing a gold mind of an opportunity by not tapping into the Downtown San Jose lunch crowd and residents.

If you’re a San Jose Resident and haven’t visited A.G. Ferrari Foods, then I have to say that you are missing out on a culinary experience. A.G. Ferrari Foods started bringing little pieces of Italy to San Jose and the Bay Area since 1919.

Asquew Grill

My fiance and I were heading for the movies once again. “The Reaping” started at 5p.m and we knew our stomachs would be growling by then. We decided to stop into a quiet new restaurant called Asqew Grill. I am not pleased with the restaurant. The price of the food is high, The portion of food is small and the staff do not know anything about customer service.
