Meeting Stephanie and her blog

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

lauranubuck.jpgMy hubby walked into the door last night and pulled out a piece of paper. “Do you know of a blog called back in skinny jeans?” he asked with a smile on his face. “She came into work today.” I responded with my jaw hitting the floor.

Back in skinny jeans is what I want my blogs to be like. I want About San Jose and Let’s get fierce to be a place where people can learn, have fun and feel at home. Stephanie’s blog is where people are real and not just try to rise to the top of the Blogging world.

That’s exactly what I get from Steph’s blog and the fact that she’s a Bay Area gal is just icing on the cake. Oh wait, maybe I shouldn’t be writing about cake.

Steph Q. has created a place where people can work on making themselves healthier in more ways than one. It’s a little reminder that when the weight is lost, your world will not be perfect but it will be better.

Plus how can you not like someone who is into crime dramas, Medium, and leading characters with skeletons in the closet. Just think all this may have not been available if Stephanie Q. hadn’t dabbled in blogging and opened up her life to the world in 2005.

So if you have made the resolution to drop the weight and make your life better then be sure to check out Stephanie Q and Back in skinny jeans.

SCVM and help with Diverticulosis

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Diverticulitis.jpgSorry that I’ve been away. I’ve been ill with colon problems and actually had a long stay at SCVMC. For everyone that doesn’t know what or who SCVMC is the letters stand for Santa Clara Valley Medical.

A lot of people complain about SCVM because of long waiting times in emergency and the attitudes of some staff members. I honestly have to say that I’m glad that it’s there. I’m glad that there is a place I can go in case of an emergency when I don’t have health insurance.

The people that I thank the most are the nurses and cleaning staff. While the doctors were in to see me once a day, it was the nurses and cleaning staff that were willing to put a smile on my face during my long stay.

If you have ever had problems with Diverticuli, then you know what I’m talking about.

Diverticuli are this little pockets of debris and waste that develop on the outside of your colon. A person can become extremely ill if the toxics get into the blood stream. Bloating and constipation are minor symptoms while fever; vomiting, cold like symptoms, and abdominal pain are all acute symptoms of diverticulosis.

Can you believe that some of the foods that we eat can cause this illness? Some people are just unable to digest corn, popcorn, small seeds, and hard nuts like almonds. 1 out of 10 Americans over the age of 40 have diverticulosis. 2 out of 10 Americans over the age of 60 deal with the symptoms of diverticulosis.

A high fiber diet is not the cure all for Diverticulitus but it can help prevent it. High Fiber cereals, breads, pasta, and oatmeal will help clean the walls of the colon. As always if you are over the age of 60, have regular colon check ups.

This way you’ll be able to stay away from a long and costly stay at SCVM. If you would like more ways to stay healthy check out Brick’s thoughts at Encouraging Health as well as the other eleven health blogs we have at 451 Press.
