CityDome.jpgDroves Of Foreigners
With foreign currency lapping the U.S. Dollar many citizens of Canada, Asian, and European countries are buying homes for a great deal. It you don’t believe so check out this story at the San Francisco Chronicle.

The McCullough’s just closed escrow on a 1.3 Million dollar home for $711,000.
I have to say that I hate the fact that the value of the U.S. Dollar is steadily decreasing but thank God someone is buying the homes in The Bay Area and stimulating the economy.

How many people will come overseas to buy homes? Will the stimulation of the economy be any good? We’ll just have to wait and see.

More Rain
It’s yet another gloomy day in San Jose, California. CBS 5 reports that there is going to be more rain over San Jose and The Bay Area. Thankfully, it’s not supposed to be as bad as the one that was over the city Friday and Saturday.

While looking at the CBS Live Doppler it looks to be about a 25 – 35 percent chance of rain. I’d still have the umbrella handy just in case.

Strange and stupid people
A woman who wanted her lovers wife deceased advertised for a killer on Craigslist. CBS 5 reports that Mary Ann offered $5,000 and a work address to anyone that was willing to take the offer.

You can read the full report here.

I just don’t understand it? Did she not think that she was going to get caught? There are thousands of people that visit Craigslist every day. The are thousands of people looking for employment every day and some of them are very honest.

Let’s not forget the fact that police officers and civilians working with the police comb through Craigslist weekly and at times daily to seek out preditors.

More warm hands to come

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

mittens.jpgJennifer Gooch asks the question “ Do you have one cold hand?” The CMU student created a Blogger site asking the same question. ‘One Cold Hand’ has been up for a month and has great success.

Jennifer has helped CMU students match up with their ski, leather, and yes-even leopard print gloves. With over 55,000 hits in the past month Jennifer plans to create a site for every city. People who love the idea have even spearheaded efforts in setting up glove collection sites in their area.

So what happens to the gloves that are not returned to their owners? It seams that this resourceful art student has planned to produce a coffee table book of the found gloves. Maybe we’ll even get to read the stories about the people who lost their glove.

I wonder what is next? A site called ‘one bare foot?’ perhaps. Or maybe ‘tot flop’? A site where parents can find the pieces of clothing their children mysteriously lose in stores. Parents you know this happens, Walmart created a commercial around it.

O.K. Art Students of San Jose State, where are you hiding your site?

No matter what spawns off of ‘One Cold Hand?’ I wish Jennifer Gooch the prosperity with her site, her education, and her future!.

No room for “Middle Americans”

Monday, November 26th, 2007

michael.jpgUnfortunately, I won’t be able to get out and about San Jose, California today. I have English lessons to deal with and several Blog posts to make. I hate it when stuff that I need to do backs up.

Thinking about San Jose and Silicon Valley, I ran across a Blog that is all about money, personal finance, geeks and cyber space. I have to say great! I love other blogs that deal with San Jose and the Bay Area.

The Silicon Valley Blogger wrote about the struggle of achieving class mobility. I have to say “Amen Brother”. Thankfully, I’m currently part of a group that people call “Middle America”. I haven’t always been part of this group but thankfully I am now.

It reminds me that when I want to complain about my social status that there is three hundred or more people in San Jose, California who just wish they were in the situation that I am in.

Why does it have to be this way and will San Jose, California eventually become “Upper Americans” only? The Silicon Valley Blogger classifies “Upper Americans” as professionals and managers with a college and often a graduate degree. From where I’m standing it looks like it.

Thinking back to the three hundred or more people that spend their nights wishing for a job and shelters in San Jose, I could only find job listings for 50% of them on Craigslist.

Why the rant on social status and how San Jose, California is changing? I guess I just wanted to give people a wake up call. There are people out there that need employment and want it. All you have to do is visit some of the shelters and you will meet them.

So when the boss is giving you hell in the work place. Just be happy that you have a job and remember that it could be worst.

train.jpgWhat great fun for the kids or the kid at heart. Each year Casa De Fruita becomes Pumpkin Junction.

Activities
There are a lot of fun activities at Casa De Fruita. Families can shop for the perfect pumkin for Halloween or baking. Kids and kids at heart can take pictures with spooky characters and ride the big yellow train.

San Jose Safeway.com Doesn’t Deliver

Monday, September 24th, 2007

groceries.jpgAs a convenience to busy lives, Safeway offers the advantage of ordering groceries online and having them delivered between certain hours. You would think that this is an advantage but Safeway.com doesn’t deliver.

Website maneuverability
Safeway.com is actually really easy to use. A customer simply has to fill out a small form to access the website. Most products are categorized by type of food. Safeway.com also has a quick search engine. The search engine definitely comes in handy when a customer is looking for a name brand.

Speed
As a grocery store that has delivery service, a person would think that Safeway has quick service. I have found that it actually takes up more time than going to the actual store.
The actual shopping online takes about the same time it would take to shop inside of Safeway.

The time crunch comes during delivery. Safeway.com requires a window of either two hours or four hours. Don’t expect to get quick delivery in the evening time. Traffic is horrible between 4-6pm and it causes the delivery person to be late

Pacific Coast Fog Festival 9/29 - 9/30

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

surfer.jpgWhy celebrate fog? That’s exactly what they do in Pacifica each year. If your looking for something to do for the weekend of the 29th, I would take the one hour drive to Pacifica for the Annual Pacific Coast Fog Festival.

The festival was created in 1986 to celebrate the wonderful coastal climate, community of Pacifica, the surf, and the sand. Each year several tons of sand is brought into the Pacific coast fog festival for the National Champion Sandcastle Builders. These several tons of sand are turn into amazing sculptures. Do not forget your camera!

San Jose Wins California League!

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Brian Bocock hits a three run homer to bring The San Jose Giants into home plate for a 7-1 win against The Lake Elsinore Storms.

I’m sure this was a big surprise to many for a team that is at the low end of California League Batting Average. Though Travis Denker holds second in batting average with a .480.

“He hung a slider and I knew it [was a home run] as soon as I hit it,” Bocock said to reporter Ryan McConnell

Absolute chaos ensued when Brian Bocock came into home plate. People were jumping on each other. Players were running around and even the mascot played dog pile on the rabbit in celebration of this great win.

Plane, Train, Bus, or Car? Traveling from San Jose, CA.

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

airline.jpgThe question of the day is “Do I go by Plane, Train, Bus, or Car?” I recently had to make last minute travel arrangements from San Jose, California to Los Angeles, California. Even though I wanted to get to my destination quickly, I still wanted to save money, have comfort, and have stress free travel plans.

Airplane
The obvious quickest travel jaunt is by airplane. Most flights to Los Angeles take less than two hours. A traveler is usually only in the air for forty-five minutes. The best thing about flying is that you can sit back and read a book for an hour.

The negative about flying is that you have to be at the airport two hours before your flight. There are a hundred or more other passengers to deal with. The seating is not very comfortable and a person of my size ends up having to purchase two seats just so that the passenger next to me and I can be comfortable.

This wonderful event began nearly forty years ago with Dr. Susan Cashion and Ramon Morones. Senor Daniel Galan, Consul General de Mexico, and Senora Guadalupe Suarez assisted Dr. Cashion and Mr. Morones in developing the first Mexican dance and cultural group.

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

algore.jpg
The United States has only 5 percent of the world’s population, but emits more than 25 percent of the world’s carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas largely responsible for global warming. There a ways you can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that you release into Silicon Valley’s ecosystem.
